Overview

The unit will comprise of the following 6 modules to be delivered over 12 teaching weeks:

• Surgical wounds, flaps and grafts
• Draining wounds including stomas, fistulas and sinuses
• Pressure injuries and skin tears
• Leg ulcers and diabetic foot
• Burns and trauma
• Malignant, tropical and infected wounds

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to:

1. Integrate knowledge of principles of anatomy and physiology into the comprehensive assessment of diverse wound types.
2. Appraise the efficacy, applicability and adaptability of evidence-based wound assessment tools, including leveraging technology to optimise assessment of people living with a wound.
3. Demonstrate accurate documentation of various types of wound assessments.
4. Discuss the importance of holistic wound assessment including cultural implications, psycho/social ramifications and systemic barriers experienced by individuals living with a wound.
